Vicky, myself and Sheila having a coffee to warm our bones at Cafe Nero.
Its a little windy
A great pic of the channel
Sheila, Kristel and myself battle the breeze.
(series of photos for Dad) These were all taken on our visit to Tarleton.
While is doesnt resemble the past at all, this used to be a field
Once upon a time a big tree stood right here. Apparently my dad used to climb it.
I cannot recall what this building used to be but apparently it still very much resembles its original form
The same applies for this store.
Tada! Here it is- the house my dad and uncle and grandparents use to live in.
From another angle.
Here I am with Sheila standing out the front of the house my dad grew up in.
David says there used to be a concrete divide in the middle of the culdesac, it does not exist any more.
Just one block from here is were my dad got run over.
Dad- as per your request.
The cemetery in which my great grandmother rests. Its called St Catherine's and is in Churchtown.
Gail, Barry who is holding Charlie, Jamie and his girlfriend Natalie.
Yay- Vicky let me go behind the bar at The Imperial or the Im as its commonly known
Joan, Sheila, Kris, one of Vicky's (x) co-workers and Vicky, during the quiz night.
Mine and Kristels room at Sheila's place.
Sheila's living room- so cozy and it has an ausome view.
Told ya so- isnt it great? Number One Albany Street.
Here we are at the quays in Manchester
This is the new Imperial War Memorial.
Thats a very distant view of Man United's home ground
Manchester docks- recently refurbished as they are no longer used for industrial purposes.
The Nazi logo- photo taken at the Imperial War Memorial.
poor photo- this is of a tank. It was a new design and overcame the problems of getting bogged or being unable to go up/down or over steep inclines.
Lowry Outlet Mall at the Quays in Mancester.
The road that runs along the Channel in Southport
Dad- so you recognise this building?
They are currently in the process of turning it into an apartment block.
Its been rumoured that no locals are buying the apartments for superstition that the building is haunted.
Another angle- isnt the architecture great.
Local resident housing
Isn't this pretty.
Very niiice.
This is the only photo I took on our second visit to Southport.
Kristel, Vicky and myself on the Southport Pier
This is a photo of what would have been your back fence
Sheila told me that my dad and David used to play in those fields for hours.
Now the area is a small shopping complex with offices, library and some other small stores.
Number 31 Latham Cresent
Sheila told me it looks almost exactly the same. However now there are fences on the sides of the property.
It was a little freaky and definately emotional standing there looking at this little house. It was like all the stories I have heard over the years were coming to life in my mind.
I didnt take a photo but the street and the intersection are imprinted in my memory.
This is the head stone of my great grandmothers grave. As my dad and family migrated to Australia they did not have the opportunity of attending the funeral. It took us a while to find the head stone even with Sheila knowing its approximate location.
Its extreamly old compared to those we see in Oz. Some of the head stones appear completely blank. Their text erased slowly over time by the weather and sun.
After this we went to The Hesk of Arms- cheers for the drinks Steve.
Gail made us the nicest dinner- thanks heaps Gail and Barry for having us :)
Its a very cool pub- my fav feature = the quiz machine :)
Thanks for giving up your bed Sheila- it was to nice of you.
Spooky
This is the hospital my dad spent a lot of time in as a boy, after being run over.
We dont have anything that comes close to this in Canberra.
This is one of the differences Ive found between the UK and Australia. In the UK small areas like this are looked after and maintained, special care is taken to keep things looking great and attention is given to making all spare space functional and pleasant for the public.
Vicky and her friend took us to bingo- nothing like our little bingo at Tomakin- these people play for big bucks and the bingo hall is HUGE. Even though we didnt win we still had an ausome time.
Big thanks to Sheila and Vicky for having us and taking time out to spend with us. A big thanks to Jamie to for driving us around.
